I made pants (you can just make things) comrade

I made pants because you can just make things

I'll try to include a picture at some point (this post is also a test on some backend functionality).

Anyway, I followed a pattern that I found, and then hand stitched myself a pair of pants. Being disconnected from the entire process most of my life (like I'm sure many of us are), it was a bit weird for me at first. They are not the nicest looking pants, but then again they are my first attempt, and in the end it turned out they work pretty well as pants.

I made them out of linen because I wanted something for the Summer heat, and I was having a hard time finding a pair of men's linen pants that were looser and not meant to be worn on a cruise ship, or cost $200. And there was a tiny part of me that wanted to see if I could make the clothes I kept looking for.

I chose to stitch them by hand because:

  1. I didn't want to pull out the sewing machine every time I wanted to make something. Being able to start stitching wherever, whenever was preferable.
  2. I was often sewing at night after the kids were asleep, and the sewing machine seemed a bit loud. It probably isn't that loud (my kids would probably sleep through a vacuum cleaner at night), but it felt like I was being loud.
  3. Doing it at night also meant having to take time to haul out and setup a machine was a barrier too big. I needed ease of setup so I could kind of fall into it.
  4. The sewing machine was scary. Not like, actually scary, but it was too complex and elaborate for my first time making something, whereas hand sewing meant all I had to do was cut some thread and start sewing. And it felt like I was getting the basics down before jumping straight into the machine.

What is next?

Shirt. Or tunic? Something to go with my pants, and made of linen, because I'm also finding out why linen is such a good fabric for the Summer.

Also, because you can just make things. So I'm gonna cut some more fabric and make another thing.
